A doomsday-themed Solana NFT project aims to sell 100,000 NFTs to acquire a Cold War-era nuclear bunker in Rutland, England. The creators, Dead Bruv, plan to mint 100,000 NFTs, with Meatbags holders receiving 10,000 through airdrop. The remaining NFTs will be sold, starting at $14 each from April 21. Holders will become part of a DAO called the Billionaire Bunker Club, a community-governed asset that will decide the bunker’s fate if the purchase is successful. Ideas for the bunker include a survival resort, hosting end-of-the-world festivals, or serving as an Airbnb with caviar tastings. The bunker is listed for £650,000 ($862,257) by SDL Property Auctions, with an auction scheduled for April 24. Built in 1960 and decommissioned in 1968, the bunker was a monitoring post during the Cold War. Dead Bruv’s co-founder mentioned the unique initiative was sparked by a joke and aims to make NFTs fun and creative. This effort is reminiscent of ConstitutionDAO, which attempted to buy the US Constitution in 2021 but fell short. LinksDAO successfully acquired the Spey Bay Golf Club in Scotland and the Hillcrest Country Club in the US. The trend of using DAOs for collective purchases is gaining popularity in the NFT space.
