Synthetix founder Kain Warwick has issued a warning to SNX stakers, urging them to adopt a new staking mechanism to address the ongoing depeg of sUSD (SUSD) within the protocol. In a post on X dated April 21, Warwick announced the implementation of a sUSD staking mechanism to tackle the depeg issue. He acknowledged that the current process is manual and lacks a user-friendly interface. Warwick emphasized that if there is insufficient momentum once the user interface is live, stakers in the sUSD 420 pool may face increased pressure. The sUSD 420 Pool, introduced by Synthetix on April 18, offers participants a share of 5 million SNX tokens over 12 months for locking their sUSD for a year in the pool. Warwick emphasized the importance of SNX stakers in resolving the depeg issue, stating that the collective net worth of stakers is substantial and the necessary resources are available. Notably, Synthetix’s stablecoin, sUSD, is a crypto-collateralized stablecoin tied to the market value of Synthetix (SNX). The stablecoin has experienced volatility, dropping to $0.68 on April 18, a 31% decrease from its intended 1:1 peg with the US dollar. As of April 21, sUSD is trading around $0.77 according to CoinGecko. It is crucial for SNX stakers to take action to stabilize the sUSD depeg, as Warwick is confident that with the right incentives, the issue can be resolved, allowing the project to focus on developing perps on L1. The article also highlights past instances of stablecoins depegging and recovering, underscoring the importance of effective governance and stakeholder engagement in maintaining stablecoin stability.
