Google settles with CCI in India, pays Rs 20.24 crore for Android TV practices; offers standalone licenses and waives commitments.

Google has reached a settlement with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) over alleged unfair practices in the Android TV industry, agreeing to a payment of Rs 20.24 crore. This settlement is a significant development as it is the first of its kind under the revised Competition Act in India. As part of the agreement, Google will now provide standalone licenses for Play Store and Play Services. Additionally, the tech giant will waive Android Compatibility Commitments for devices that are shipped to India without pre-installed Google apps. This move is expected to promote fair competition in the Android TV sector in India.
