Coinbase Expands into Charlotte, NC with 130+ New Hires, Focusing on Fintech Talent Growth

Coinbase, the crypto exchange giant, is expanding its presence in Charlotte, North Carolina, by hiring over 130 employees in a move to tap into emerging fintech talent pools in the US. A company spokesperson confirmed to Cointelegraph that Coinbase is making a significant investment in Charlotte with a new physical office and a commitment to fill 130+ local positions in Compliance and Customer Support within the next six months. This expansion is in response to Charlotte’s growing status as a financial and tech hub, making it an attractive location to address the increasing demands for customer service and compliance. With its fast-growing population and highly skilled workforce, Charlotte provides an ideal environment to support Coinbase’s long-term growth strategy. Coinbase, which has been operating as a remote-first company since 2020 with offices in San Francisco and New York, offers around 95% of its employees the flexibility to work remotely, in an office, or a combination of both. The hiring spree in Charlotte is part of Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong’s plan to add approximately 1,000 new employees in the US this year, driven by positive regulatory signals from the government. While the company’s total workforce currently stands at 3,772 employees, the new hires would represent a substantial increase. However, the decision to expand into Charlotte is primarily motivated by the talent opportunities in the region rather than recent political developments. Additionally, Coinbase is exploring the possibility of applying for a US federal bank charter as part of its growth strategy.
