A coalition of non-governmental organizations has made remarkable progress in the fight against child marriage in India. According to the latest data from 2024-25, more than 1,351 instances of child marriages were successfully prevented, with over 1.2 lakh potential marriages averted through a combination of legal actions and community-based interventions in 416 districts nationwide. Notably, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Bihar emerged as the states with the highest number of First Information Reports (FIRs) filed in cases where interventions failed to prevent the marriages. This concerted effort reflects the commitment of various organizations to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children across the country. The success in curbing child marriage underscores the importance of continued collaboration between government agencies, civil society groups, and local communities to address this harmful practice effectively and protect vulnerable children. By raising awareness, implementing legal measures, and providing support services, stakeholders are working towards creating a safer environment for children and empowering them to fulfill their potential. The collective efforts of these organizations signal a positive shift towards ending child marriage and promoting a more secure future for the younger generation in India.
