India’s Direct Tax Collections Surge 15.6% to Over Rs 27 Lakh Crore, Pointing to Fiscal Improvement

India’s gross direct tax collections witnessed a significant 15.6% surge, crossing Rs 27 lakh crore in the previous fiscal year. This growth was primarily fueled by rises in both income tax and corporation tax payments. The net direct tax collection also performed well, hitting almost Rs 22.3 lakh crore, marking a 13.6% increase. The uptick in tax revenue coupled with savings in expenditure indicate a possible betterment in the fiscal deficit when compared to the budget forecasts.
