India’s direct tax collections hit record high of Rs 27 lakh crore, exceeding targets and hinting at improved fiscal deficit.

India’s direct tax collections witnessed a significant 15.6% surge, crossing Rs 27 lakh crore in the previous fiscal year, fueled by rises in income tax and corporation tax. The net direct tax collection also met expectations, touching nearly Rs 22.3 lakh crore, marking a 13.6% increase. The boost in tax revenue, coupled with savings in expenditure, indicates a possible enhancement in the fiscal deficit as compared to the budget projections.
