India’s Direct Tax Collections Soar 15.6% to Over Rs 27 Lakh Crore, Beat Targets and Boost Fiscal Outlook

India witnessed a substantial 15.6% surge in gross direct tax collections, surpassing Rs 27 lakh crore in the previous fiscal year, fueled by growth in income tax and corporation tax. The net direct tax collection also met expectations, hitting nearly Rs 22.3 lakh crore, marking a 13.6% increase. The rise in tax revenue coupled with expenditure savings indicates a possible enhancement in the fiscal deficit compared to initial budget projections.
