According to a recent report by the World Bank, India has made remarkable strides in reducing extreme poverty, with 171 million people lifted out of poverty between 2011-12 and 2022-23, bringing the poverty rate down to 2.3%. Using a poverty line of $3.65 per day, the number of people lifted out of poverty increases to 378 million. Despite this progress, the country still faces challenges such as high youth unemployment and gender disparities in employment, even as overall employment rates are on the rise. The report underscores the need for continued efforts to address these issues and ensure that the benefits of economic growth are shared more equitably across society.
