India has made remarkable strides in reducing extreme poverty, according to a recent report by the World Bank. The report highlights that between 2011-12 and 2022-23, India managed to lift 171 million people out of extreme poverty, bringing the poverty rate down to 2.3%. Using a poverty line of $3.65 per day, the number of individuals lifted out of poverty increases to a staggering 378 million. This significant progress is commendable, but challenges persist, particularly in the areas of youth unemployment and gender disparities in employment. Despite an overall rise in employment rates, the country still faces the task of addressing these issues to ensure inclusive growth and sustainable development.
