The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a revenue official in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, for accepting a bribe. The accused, a patwari, was taken into custody after allegedly demanding Rs 40,000 from a complainant in exchange for a land record copy. The arrest was made following complaints that the patwari had been rejecting online applications from the complainant without proper reasons. The accused had reportedly asked for the bribe to process the fard. The CBI has been granted 14 days of custody of the accused for further investigation into the matter. This incident highlights the issue of corruption in the revenue department and the challenges faced by citizens in accessing essential services without facing bribery demands. The CBI’s swift action serves as a reminder that corruption will not be tolerated and that officials involved in such malpractices will face legal consequences.
