Actor Ben McKenzie’s scathing crypto documentary featuring SBF and Mashinsky interviews set for premiere at SXSW London.

Ben McKenzie, an actor renowned for his roles in popular television series like Gotham and The OC, is set to debut as a director in a scathing documentary shedding light on cryptocurrency. The documentary, titled “Everyone Is Lying To You For Money,” is scheduled to premiere at SXSW London in June and features interviews with former FTX CEO Sam “SBF” Bankman-Fried and former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky. The film delves into the false narratives surrounding cryptocurrency, aiming to investigate the spread of misinformation in the industry. Working alongside Jacob Silverman, a staff writer at The New Republic, McKenzie transitioned from Hollywood to address critical issues surrounding cryptocurrency in 2021. Following the collapse of FTX in November 2022, McKenzie testified at a US Senate hearing probing the downfall of the crypto exchange. Apart from the interviews with SBF and Mashinsky, the documentary will also explore the ties of El Salvador President Nayib Bukele with the crypto world. Bukele gained prominence after proposing El Salvador’s recognition of Bitcoin (BTC) as legal tender in 2021. Bankman-Fried, who is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for his involvement in the FTX collapse, has been the focus of various documentaries and interviews. Meanwhile, Mashinsky, who pleaded guilty to felony charges, is awaiting sentencing, with authorities seeking a 20-year term for the former Celsius CEO. The upcoming documentary is anticipated to provide further insights into the controversies surrounding these individuals.
