Ripple, the US-based crypto services firm known for the XRP Ledger, has pledged $25 million in Ripple USD (RLUSD) to education nonprofits DonorsChoose and Teach For America. This donation, announced on May 5, will be channeled through the crypto charity intermediary service The Giving Block. DonorsChoose CEO Alix Guerrier emphasized the financial burdens teachers face in providing classroom resources out of their pockets. Ripple’s initiative comes in response to a 2024 Gallup survey showing dissatisfaction with K-12 education quality in the US due to funding gaps. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse hopes to inspire others to support students and teachers in building a stronger future. Teach For America CEO Aneesh Sohoni expressed gratitude for the funding, which will help expand educational programs and provide financial assistance to teachers. The crypto industry has seen a rise in charitable donations, with Binance co-founder CZ Zhao and Blockchain For Impact (BFI) contributing to disaster relief and biomedical research, respectively. The Giving Block predicts crypto donations to reach $2.5 billion by 2025. This move by Ripple underscores the growing trend of crypto-fueled charity in making a positive impact on various sectors.
