Ledger Discord Server Secured After Hacker Bot Tried to Steal Seed Phrases, Users Warned of Scam Links

Hardware wallet provider Ledger has secured its Discord server after a hacker bot attempted to steal seed phrases. The incident occurred on May 11 when an attacker compromised a moderator’s account to post scam links, urging users to reveal their seed phrases on a third-party website. Ledger team member Quintin Boatwright confirmed the security breach but assured users that the issue was quickly contained. Some members alleged that the attacker misused moderator privileges to ban and mute them while they tried to report the breach. Ledger stated that this was an isolated incident and has implemented additional security measures on Discord. The hacker, using a compromised Ledger account, informed Discord members about a fake security vulnerability, prompting users to verify their recovery phrases through a scam link. It is unclear whether anyone was affected by the breach, and Ledger is yet to comment on the matter. In a related incident last month, scammers were sending physical letters to Ledger hardware wallet owners, asking them to validate their private seed phrases to access and empty their wallets. This follows a previous data breach in July 2020, where a hacker compromised Ledger’s database, exposing the personal information of over 270,000 customers. Additionally, some Ledger users claimed to have received fake Ledger devices designed to install malware upon use. Ledger users are advised to remain vigilant and cautious in light of these security incidents.
