“Lido DAO Emergency Vote After Oracle Compromise; DeFi Cybersecurity Concerns Rise”

The Lido Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) has initiated an emergency vote to address a compromised oracle that connects real-world data to blockchain systems. According to Lido DAO members, a Chorus One oracle address was compromised, leading to the draining of Ether (ETH) associated with the oracle. The incident is currently under investigation. Lido Finance clarified that the issue is isolated to the Chorus One oracle and not a system-wide problem. The team confirmed that the problem did not stem from a coding issue in any specific blockchain oracle or software. Chorus One stated that the exploit likely resulted from a leak of the hot wallet private key and is taking steps to enhance security. This incident underscores the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in decentralized finance (DeFi) as digital systems become increasingly complex, with significant attack surfaces. Cybersecurity threats remain a critical issue for the crypto and DeFi sectors, with attacks becoming more sophisticated as digital finance expands its services. Reports from cybersecurity firm Hacken revealed that over $2 billion in crypto was lost due to hacks, scams, and cybersecurity exploits in Q1 2025. The Bybit hack in February 2025 significantly contributed to the overall losses. In April 2025, crypto hacks resulted in $357 million in losses, indicating a worrying trend. Hacken CEO emphasized the need for enhanced cybersecurity and code auditing practices in the crypto industry to combat rising threats. The prevalence of cybersecurity threats, including from groups linked to North Korea, may prompt discussions on neutralizing these risks at international summits like the G7.
