India’s coal production has shown a significant increase in the first two months of 2025, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Coal. The production of raw coal in the country reached 148.50 million tonnes (MT) during this period, marking a 34.62 per cent increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Moreover, the coal dispatch from Captive and Other entities also saw a notable growth, reaching 178.02 MT by February 2025. This reflects a substantial 31.90 per cent increase from the 134.96 MT recorded in the corresponding period last year. The surge in coal production and dispatch is a positive sign for the energy sector in India, which heavily relies on coal for power generation.
