Pune Municipal Corporation denies tax relief for merged areas, sparking citizen discontent

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to issue property tax bills to owners in the 32 merged areas without discounts in order to generate additional revenue. This move has left residents feeling deceived, as the state had previously suggested lower rates before the polls. Following the integration of these areas, tax rates have seen a significant increase without a corresponding improvement in basic amenities such as roads and water supply. The decision has sparked discontent among residents who were hoping for better services in return for the higher taxes.
