Sandalwood actress Ranya Rao was apprehended at Bengaluru airport in possession of 14kg of gold bars, resulting in her placement in judicial custody. The daughter of senior IPS officer DGP K Ramachandra Rao, she found herself isolated from her father following the incident. Speculation is rife that she may be linked to a broader smuggling syndicate. Ranya had been under surveillance due to her regular travels to the Gulf region.
