A judicial commission in India has completed its investigation into the Hathras stampede tragedy that resulted in the loss of 121 lives. The commission has pointed out administrative failures as the main cause of the incident, while also noting the possibility of a conspiracy. According to the commission’s report, the event had received permission for an audience of 80,000 people, but it was attended by over 2.5 lakh individuals. Although the commission did not hold Bhole Baba accountable directly, it highlighted shortcomings in the administration and the individuals assisting him, known as ‘sevadars’, as significant contributing factors to the tragedy. The findings of the commission shed light on the lapses in management and organization that led to the unfortunate events in Hathras. The report is expected to prompt further investigations and potential actions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
