The Karnataka government is set to update its standard operating procedures to restrict protocol privileges to senior bureaucrats exclusively, excluding their family members and acquaintances. The move comes after the arrest of actor Ranya Rao for alleged gold-smuggling activities, where she was accused of misusing security protocols at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). Under the revised guidelines, additional security measures will be granted solely in situations where there is a direct threat to an official. This decision aims to enhance security measures and prevent misuse of protocol privileges within the state administration.
