Tamil Nadu CM urged to halt Silhalla hydro project over ecological concerns in Nilgiris, public consultation planned.

The Sillahalla Ecological Social Protection Association has appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin to abandon the Silhalla pumped hydroelectric storage project to avoid ecological harm and livelihood disturbances in the Nilgiris region. Local residents have highlighted Stalin’s previous opposition in 2013 and raised alarm about the possible submergence of agricultural and forest areas. A public hearing regarding the project is set for March 20.
