The process of whitewashing the Sambhal Jama Masjid has commenced as per the directive of the Allahabad High Court. The court has permitted the installation of decorative lighting without any alterations to the structure of the mosque. This mosque came into the spotlight after a survey order by a local court sparked tensions in November 2024. The controversy revolved around allegations that the mosque was constructed on the site of an ancient temple, leading to violent clashes and triggering discussions on the Places of Worship Act, 1991.
