Nearly 300 Indian nationals have been successfully rescued from scam centers in Myanmar and repatriated back to India via Thailand. This rescue operation comes as a part of a crackdown on fraudulent activities, primarily targeting Chinese-operated scam hubs in Myanmar. The crackdown has resulted in the liberation of around 7,000 workers who were victims of exploitation in these centers. India utilized a C-17 aircraft for the repatriation of its citizens, with plans for more such rescue missions in the near future. These scam centers are known for exploiting foreign workers in online fraud schemes. In contrast to India’s approach of welcoming back its citizens with open arms, China has been reported to treat its repatriated nationals as criminal suspects. The successful repatriation of the Indian nationals highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.
