A parliamentary panel has called for the establishment of a National Investigation Agency (NIA)-like agency to combat the rising threat of cybercrime in India. The panel expressed concerns over the inadequate allocation of Rs 575 crore in the 2025-26 Budget for census and NPR updation and recommended swift completion of the census process. Additionally, the committee proposed the creation of a dedicated central police force to tackle the increasing number of cybercrimes in the country. It urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to secure additional funding for central police forces to enhance their capabilities in combating cyber threats effectively. The recommendations come amidst growing concerns about the vulnerability of India’s digital infrastructure and the need for stronger measures to safeguard against cyber threats. The panel’s suggestions aim to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity framework and improve its ability to prevent and investigate cybercrimes effectively.
