“Nagpur Authorities Demolish Properties Tied to Riot Suspects, Court Halts Further Demolitions”

Municipal authorities in Nagpur, India, recently carried out demolition operations on properties associated with riot suspects, including Fahim Khan, the alleged mastermind behind the violence. The demolitions were conducted under the watchful eye of heavy police security. However, the Bombay High Court intervened and put a stop to any further demolitions, deeming the actions as high-handed. The authorities defended their actions by pointing out planning violations and expressed their intention to persist in targeting unauthorized constructions connected to individuals implicated in the riots. The unrest resulted in one fatality and left more than 40 people injured. The situation in Nagpur continues to be tense as investigations into the root causes of the violence and the individuals responsible are ongoing.
