Mt. Gox Moves $1B in Bitcoin: Third Major Transaction This Month Sparks Creditor Payout Speculations.

Bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange Mt. Gox has recently transferred 11,501 Bitcoin in its third major transaction within a month. The transfer, disclosed by blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence on March 25, revealed that Mt. Gox moved 893 Bitcoin valued at around $78 million to its cold wallet (1Jbez) and another 10,608 Bitcoin worth approximately $929 million to its change wallet (1DcoA). This move follows previous transfers of 12,000 Bitcoin on March 6 and 11,833 Bitcoin on March 11. Spot On Chain, another analytics platform, noted that one of the earlier transfers this month ended up in the crypto exchange Bitstamp. With Mt. Gox still holding about 35,000 Bitcoin worth $3.1 billion, speculations arise about potential creditor payouts on the horizon, with creditors having the option to receive payouts in Bitcoin. Mt. Gox faced bankruptcy in 2014 after experiencing an 850,000 Bitcoin loss due to a major hack, leading to a significant shift in the cryptocurrency landscape. The exchange, which dominated the market before the breach, now faces ongoing proceedings to compensate creditors with its remaining assets. The trustee overseeing Mt. Gox’s Bitcoin holdings recently extended the repayment deadline to October 31, 2025, citing incomplete procedures from some creditors. In a separate development, Mt. Gox transferred over 24,000 Bitcoin, worth nearly $2.5 billion, to an undisclosed address in December. These recent movements from Mt. Gox continue to impact the cryptocurrency market and the future of creditor repayments.
