CBSE to Crack Down on Dummy Schools: Stricter Rules for Class XII Attendance to Bar Students from Board Exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is gearing up to implement stricter rules to crack down on “dummy schools” across India. The board is considering amending its examination bylaws to prevent Class XII students with inadequate attendance from appearing in board exams. Instead, these students may be advised to take the National Institute of Open Schooling exams as an alternative. Starting from the 2025-2026 academic session, schools found guilty of promoting students with poor attendance could also potentially face disciplinary measures. This move by CBSE aims to ensure accountability and integrity in the education system by curbing the practice of “dummy schools” that compromise the quality of education.
