Goa CM assures no impact on state amid controversy over Waqf property exclusion in bill.

Goa Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, has reassured that the proposed bill to exclude ‘Waqf’ properties in the state will not have any impact on the existing properties. The bill aims to safeguard the properties of the State Wakf Board and ensure their proper management. Sawant clarified that the bill is only intended to prevent the registration of new properties as Waqf land without the board’s approval. He emphasized that the bill will not affect any existing Waqf properties in Goa. The move comes after concerns were raised about the protection and management of Waqf properties in the state. Waqf properties are charitable endowments for religious or social purposes under Islamic law. The bill is expected to streamline the process of managing these properties and prevent any unauthorized registrations. Sawant assured that the state government is committed to protecting the rights of all communities and ensuring the proper management of Waqf properties. The bill is part of the government’s efforts to promote transparency and accountability in land management in the state. The Chief Minister also stated that the bill will not infringe on the religious rights of any community and is aimed at ensuring proper governance of Waqf properties in Goa.
