The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Tamil Nadu has demanded the withdrawal of the contentious Waqf Amendment Act, calling it divisive and unjust. The party stated that the amendment undermines the autonomy of the Waqf boards and infringes upon the rights of the Muslim community. The CPM has urged the central government to repeal the act, which they argue goes against the principles of secularism enshrined in the Constitution. The party has also criticized the Tamil Nadu government for not taking a stand against the act and failing to protect the interests of the Muslim community. The Waqf Amendment Act, passed in 2013, empowers the central government to remove or supersede the elected Waqf boards and take control of the administration of Waqf properties. The CPM has vowed to continue its fight against the act and ensure that the rights of the Muslim community are upheld. The party has called for solidarity among all sections of society to oppose the act and protect the constitutional rights of minority communities in India.
