SC faces challenge to Waqf Amendment Act by Muslim groups, alleging exclusion and rights violations.

Several Muslim organizations, such as DMK, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, AIMPLB, and Samastha Kerala Jamiathul Ulema, have filed petitions in the Supreme Court challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act. The petitions focus on the removal of the ‘waqf by user’ provision and argue that this amendment excludes Muslims from waqf management, potentially infringing upon their fundamental rights and religious freedom. The Supreme Court has refrained from urgently listing these pleas, following its ‘no mention’ rule. The organizations are concerned about the implications of the amendment on the Muslim community’s role in managing waqf properties. This legal challenge highlights the ongoing debate surrounding religious rights and property management in India.
