India mulls zero-duty US imports to boost trade deal, with strict rules on value addition.

India is contemplating the possibility of zero-duty imports from the United States in a variety of sectors, including those covered by the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. The aim is to accelerate the process of reaching a bilateral trade agreement and to undo reciprocal tariffs. However, this proposal comes with a condition of stringent rules of origin, mandating a 30-40% value addition. This move is intended to boost trade relations between the two countries and enhance economic cooperation.
