Post-Assad Syria is currently grappling with a serious issue of land mines and unexploded ordnance, which pose a significant threat to the population, leading to numerous fatalities and life-altering injuries, particularly in regions like Idlib that were once battlegrounds. The risk is especially high for farmers and returning residents who are often unaware of the hidden dangers. Unfortunately, the demining process is facing obstacles due to a shortage of specialized equipment and the continued danger faced by deminers, resulting in slow progress in clearing the affected areas. The presence of these deadly remnants of war not only hinders the safe return of civilians to their homes but also impedes the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in these war-torn regions. It is imperative for the authorities and international organizations to prioritize and expedite the demining process to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of the people in post-conflict Syria.
