Amitabh Bachchan’s Jalsa handshake video draws mixed reactions
New reports describe Amitabh Bachchan declining a handshake while greeting fans at Jalsa, as a circulating video draws differing online reactions.
A newly circulating clip from Jalsa
Amitabh Bachchan continued to greet fans with folded hands while declining a request for a handshake in a video from his October 11 appearance outside Jalsa. The Indian Express and NDTV published accounts of the interaction on Monday, October 12, after the clip circulated on social media.
The scene took place during the actor’s 84th-birthday greeting outside his Mumbai residence. The new reports focus on the specific interaction with approaching fans and the response to the video, rather than a fresh birthday celebration. Bachchan remained accompanied by security personnel as he acknowledged the people gathered outside.

NDTV describes Bachchan stepping out in a red kurta and greeting the crowd through waves and folded hands. It says security personnel intervened when young fans tried to approach. At one point, the actor declined a female fan’s request to shake hands.
The Indian Express likewise reports that he continued greeting people while declining handshake requests. It also notes that he posed beside a large garland arranged by fans, thanked them for their wishes and returned inside. Neither report attributes an explanation for the individual handshake decision directly to Bachchan.

The Indian Express describes contrasting responses in selected online comments: some viewers criticised the refusal, while others defended the security arrangements around the greeting. NDTV also reports differing views about the fan’s approach and the actor’s personal space.
Those comments show reactions among individual viewers; they do not establish a wider measure of public opinion or the actor’s private reasons.
