Delhi restores 214 passenger train services; 30 remain cancelled

Northern Railway restores 214 Delhi-area passenger train services on October 11, while 30 remain cancelled. Check individual train status before travel.

Passenger services return, with exceptions

Northern Railway has restored 214 passenger train services in the Delhi area on Sunday, October 11, following the disruptions around the Cockroach Janta Party protest. The Indian Express reports that 30 services remain cancelled, while three have only partly resumed.

The railway’s chief public relations officer, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, attributed the restoration to easing traffic congestion. Routes returning to service include Delhi–Ghaziabad, Delhi–Aligarh, Agra–Palwal, Panipat–New Delhi, Kurukshetra–Delhi and Panipat–Ambala.

Passengers should distinguish the broad restoration announcement from the status of their individual train. The newspaper’s service list identifies cancellations including train 64002 from Panipat to Delhi Junction, 64414 from Delhi Junction to Ghaziabad and 64567 from Bulandshahr to Tilak Bridge.

What the overnight announcement covered

Business Standard separately reported that Northern Railway announced a return to normal schedules from midnight on Sunday. Its report put Saturday’s cancellations at 245 services, comprising 75 long-distance trains and 170 passenger services.

Of the long-distance cancellations, 40 involved incoming trains. Another 35 outgoing services were affected because the train sets needed for them would not arrive. Railway zones had cited road congestion when explaining the disruption. Business Standard also reported that all Metro station gates reopened at 10 pm on Saturday.

That announcement preceded Sunday’s more detailed passenger-service list. Read together, the two reports indicate a broad reopening with continuing exceptions, rather than confirmation that every listed service is running.

Check the train before leaving

The Indian Express says its list incorporates Northern Railway’s restoration notice and a later October 11 update, using the later notice where they differ. Travellers can check the National Train Enquiry System or call 139 for current information before heading to a station.
