The court asked advocate Pravin Anand, appearing for Sanon, to address which attributes of a person may qualify for protection. It also sought assistance on whether disputes of this kind fall within the jurisdiction of the High Court’s Intellectual Property Division. ANI reported that the judge wanted an examination extending beyond the particulars of this case.
Anand submitted that personality rights could cover names, voices, faces, images, photographs and videos. He also referred to the commercial use of someone’s identity without consent. Those were submissions made by the actor’s counsel; the hearing report does not present them as a final determination of the boundaries of protection.
