Radhikka Madan discusses body-image pressure in new interview

Radhikka Madan recalls criticism during film-related weight changes and explains why she began prioritising well-being over appearance expectations.

The actor describes changing expectations

Radhikka Madan has spoken about the pressure surrounding women actors’ appearance, recalling criticism that continued even as her body changed for different films. Reports published by The Times of India and Bollywood Hungama on October 12 draw on her conversation with HT City.

Madan also expressed support for Katrina Kaif amid comments about her postpartum appearance. The focus of her account, however, was her own experience: she described how trying to satisfy contradictory expectations eventually led her to place greater importance on feeling healthy.

A transformation for films, followed by a break

The actor recalled gaining 15 kilograms for Pataakha and later losing that weight while working on Shiddat and Angrezi Medium. According to her account, she was initially criticised for being too heavy, then faced comments that she had become too thin.

Madan said the combination of continuing weight loss and back-to-back work affected her health, and that she took a break. These are her recollections of that period, rather than a new medical diagnosis or a description of her present treatment.

She explained that the repeated criticism made her question the value of pleasing people whose expectations kept shifting. Her response was to focus on well-being rather than a particular body size. The interview presents that as a personal change in outlook.

How she relates the pressure to growing up

Madan discussed how narrow images of beauty can influence girls from childhood, including the impression that they must fit one ideal appearance. She recalled having a unibrow and facial hair at school and credited positive parenting with helping her feel confident.

The actor’s emphasis was on accepting individual traits and finding one’s own sense of security. She acknowledged that this takes time, especially when outside comments are difficult to ignore.

Her remarks add a performer’s personal account to the conversation about appearance in cinema. They do not establish a recommended weight, diet or treatment, and should not be read as advice to imitate a film-related physical transformation.
