What have the doctors’ associations asked for?
Sunny Deol’s forthcoming film Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak faces a request for government scrutiny after the Indian Medical Association objected to its promotional material. The association has asked for an impartial review and corrective measures, alleging that the teaser generalises corruption in medicine and depicts violence against healthcare workers in a way that could damage public trust.
Film Information reports that IMA national president Dr Anilkumar J. Nayak wrote to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on October 22. The request includes a ban if justified under applicable law. That is a demand from the association, rather than a reported government decision to prohibit the film.
[1][2]Why are AIIMS Delhi’s resident doctors objecting?
The Times of India reports that the Resident Doctors Association of AIIMS Delhi has also raised concerns about the teaser. It alleges that scenes and dialogue portray assaults on medical personnel inside hospitals as justified, and has urged the certification board, ministry and filmmakers to address those concerns.
The IMA’s Gujarat branch separately sought examination of the full film, its dialogue, hospital scenes and publicity. Its representation distinguishes portraying genuine malpractice from casting an entire profession in a prejudicial light. It asked for legally warranted corrections and a disclaimer clarifying that fictional allegations should not be understood as established facts. These are the organisations’ objections to the portrayal, not findings about wrongdoing by real medical professionals.
[2]Has the certification board ruled on Suryaa?
The certification position is separate from the associations’ requests. Variety India, citing ANI, reports that Suryaa had not been submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification as of October 22. The report does not establish a certification refusal or an order banning release.
The film remains scheduled for November 20 in the reports reviewed. Its fictional story follows Deol as a retired police officer pursuing a medical malpractice case after his daughter’s death, with Ravi Kishan among the cast. For viewers following the dispute, the key distinction is between criticism of the promotional material, a request for official review and any eventual certification decision; the first two have been reported, while the cited certification update concerns submission status.
