Rajasthan farmers protest against water diversion to Pakistan amid local shortages

The diversion of 670 cusecs of water from the Hussainiwala headworks to Pakistan instead of Rajasthan has sparked discontent among farmers in Rajasthan, hampering their wheat cultivation efforts. Despite directives from the central government to prioritize Indian states’ water needs, the excess surface water in Punjab remains underutilized for agriculture in Rajasthan. Harvinder Singh Gill, chairman of the Gang canal project, has verified the misallocation of water resources, leading to growing frustration among Rajasthan farmers. This issue highlights the urgent need for efficient water management practices and equitable distribution of water resources to support agricultural activities in India.
