The Jammu & Kashmir Forest Research Institute is implementing a groundbreaking project to protect Kashmir’s iconic Chinar trees from illegal logging and urban encroachment by digitally tagging them with unique numbers and QR codes. This initiative, which aims to safeguard the health and existence of these majestic trees, has already identified 28,560 Chinars, including some of the oldest and largest in Asia. By utilizing digital Aadhaar shields, the institute hopes to monitor and track the Chinars more effectively, ensuring their preservation for future generations. This innovative approach not only combats the axe of greed but also promotes environmental conservation in the region.
