“India’s COVID-19 cases drop significantly as vaccination drive gains momentum, boosting hopes for recovery”

The Indian government recently announced new guidelines for the regulation of social media platforms and OTT streaming services in the country. These guidelines aim to provide a framework for ensuring accountability and transparency in digital media. Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram will now be required to set up a grievance redressal mechanism to address user complaints in a timely manner. They will also need to appoint a Chief Compliance Officer residing in India to ensure compliance with the new rules. Additionally, social media platforms with more than 50 lakh users will have to publish periodic compliance reports. The guidelines also include provisions for the removal of objectionable content within 24 hours of receiving a complaint. As for OTT streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar, they will now be required to classify their content into categories based on age suitability. They will also need to implement parental controls and ensure compliance with the new regulations. The government’s move to regulate social media platforms and OTT streaming services comes amid growing concerns about the spread of fake news, hate speech, and inappropriate content online. By introducing these guidelines, the government aims to create a safer online environment for users while also promoting accountability and transparency in the digital media landscape.
