Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s government has taken a firm stance against the implementation of a third language in schools, citing a loss of Rs 2,152 crore in Samagra Shiksha funds from the Centre. Accusing the Central government of “cheating,” the state government highlighted the non-release of funds due to non-compliance with the three-language formula under the New Education Policy. As a result, Tamil Nadu is utilizing its own resources to ensure the welfare of school students and pay teacher salaries. In the state budget, a significant amount of Rs 46,767 crore has been allocated for education. This move underscores the state’s commitment to prioritizing education despite facing financial challenges. The stand-off between the state government and the Centre continues to impact the education sector in Tamil Nadu, raising concerns about the future of educational policies and funding in the state.
