Bitcoin Whale Bets $368M on BTC Drop Ahead of FOMC Meeting, Leveraging 40x for Short Position

A Bitcoin whale has placed a staggering $368 million bet on a short-term decline in Bitcoin’s price ahead of a crucial week with significant economic reports. This large crypto investor has opened a 40x leveraged short position for over 4,442 Bitcoin (BTC), anticipating a fall in Bitcoin’s price. Leveraged positions involve borrowed funds to amplify gains and losses, making trading riskier. The whale initiated the $368 million position at $84,043 and risks liquidation if Bitcoin exceeds $85,592. Despite accruing over $2 million in unrealized profit, the investor faces a $200,000 loss in funding fees. In March, another trader earned $68 million on a 50x leveraged short position on Ether (ETH). This move precedes a week filled with major economic releases, including the upcoming Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting on March 19, which could influence investor sentiment towards assets like Bitcoin. According to experts, Bitcoin must close the week above $81,000 to avoid potential downside volatility before the FOMC meeting. Analysts suggest that unexpected hawkish signals from the Fed could impact Bitcoin and other risk assets. The market anticipates the Fed to maintain interest rates but remains cautious of any surprises.
