Bitcoin Dominance Surges Over 60% as Altseason Fades: Market Saturated with New Tokens, Impacting Altcoins

Bitcoin (BTC) dominance in the Indian crypto market has been steadily increasing since 2023, currently standing at around 61.6%. This rise comes amidst a surge of new cryptocurrency coins and tokens. The recent market cycle has seen Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) gaining traction, channeling liquidity away from alternative coins (altcoins). This shift has impacted the traditional market pattern where profits from safer assets like BTC would flow into riskier investments, including altcoins. However, with the influx of new digital assets, the market now boasts over 12.7 million unique tokens listed on CoinMarketCap, a significant increase from the previous count. In January 2025 alone, over 600,000 tokens were launched, mainly memecoins and low-cap altcoins. Market analyst Jesse Myers highlights that failed coins often linger with low market capitalizations, locking capital in illiquid markets. This market saturation has prompted industry players like Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong to reassess token listing processes to cater to evolving consumer demands. The abundance of new assets has led to speculation that the era of altcoin season may be over, with analysts suggesting that future market cycles may not witness the same trend. As the crypto market landscape evolves, investors are advised to conduct thorough research before making any investment decisions.
