Kannada actress Ranya Rao was apprehended at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport for allegedly smuggling 14.2 kg of gold valued at Rs 12.56 crore. Following the arrest, further searches conducted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at her home led to the discovery of gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash, making the total seizure amount to Rs 17.29 crore. Ranya Rao, who is the stepdaughter of IPS officer Ramachandra Rao, has been placed in judicial custody pending ongoing investigations into the smuggling network. The incident has caused a stir in the entertainment industry and law enforcement circles as authorities dig deeper into the case.
