Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been accused of approving crucial decisions without consulting other ministers during his tenure. The current Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, Sitaram Kunte, has submitted an affidavit to the High Court stating that Fadnavis took important policy decisions without the approval of the Cabinet. These decisions include the Jalyukt Shivar scheme, approval for construction of the new Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi, and granting funds to the tune of Rs 100 crore for the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial in Mumbai. The affidavit also mentions that these decisions were taken without any discussion in the Cabinet and were later ratified by the Cabinet. This revelation has raised questions about the decision-making process during Fadnavis’s tenure as Chief Minister. The affidavit was submitted in response to a petition challenging the Maharashtra government’s decision to cancel a residential project in Mumbai. The High Court has asked for a detailed explanation from the government regarding the decision-making process and has sought a response from Fadnavis as well. The case is likely to have political implications as Fadnavis is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and currently holds a prominent position within the party.
