Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) officials recently conducted raids on warehouses belonging to e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart in Tiruvallur. The raids resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of non-certified products valued at lakhs of rupees. The action was taken under Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016. Among the items confiscated were insulated flasks and baby diapers that did not meet the required certification standards. Authorities have issued a stern warning that selling products without the necessary BIS certification is a serious offense that can lead to penalties including imprisonment and hefty fines. The move by BIS is part of a larger effort to crack down on the sale of substandard goods in the Indian market and ensure the safety and quality of products available to consumers.
