The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has emerged as a key revenue source for the Ministry of Earth Sciences, having amassed more than Rs 226 crore in revenue since the fiscal year 2022-23. A major portion of this income is attributed to the provision of aviation meteorological services to the Airports Authority of India. Furthermore, revenue is derived from the sale of meteorological data, weather reports, and equipment testing/calibration services. The IMD’s financial success underscores its pivotal role in providing essential meteorological services across India.
