India recently sealed a massive deal worth Rs 62,700 crore with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to acquire 156 ‘Prachand’ light combat helicopters for the Indian Army and Indian Air Force. This move is set to bolster the country’s combat capabilities significantly. The helicopters will be manufactured at HAL factories and are specifically designed for high-altitude operations. They currently boast 45% indigenous content, with plans to increase this to 65% by the completion of the project. This strategic investment underscores India’s commitment to enhancing its defense infrastructure and promoting self-reliance in the defense sector.
