“India’s Renewable Energy Capacity Exceeds 100 GW, Aiming for 450 GW by 2030”

In a recent development, the Indian government has announced new guidelines for social media platforms and OTT streaming services in India. The new rules require social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to establish a grievance redressal mechanism for resolving complaints from users. These platforms are also required to appoint a Chief Compliance Officer, a Nodal Contact Person, and a Resident Grievance Officer who must be residents of India. Additionally, social media platforms will have to remove content within 36 hours of receiving a complaint that is related to nudity, pornography, or any other explicit material. As for OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ Hotstar, they will now be required to classify content into categories like U (Universal), U/A 7+, U/A 13+, U/A 16+, and A (Adult). Furthermore, these platforms must implement parental locks for content classified as U/A 13+ or higher. The new guidelines aim to regulate digital content and ensure a safer online environment for users in India. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in penalties or even a ban on the platforms. It is a significant step by the government to hold social media platforms and OTT services accountable for the content shared on their platforms.
