The Indian government recently announced a price hike of Rs 50 for LPG cylinders, raising the cost for Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries to Rs 550 and for general users to Rs 853 from the previous prices of Rs 500 and Rs 803, respectively. This decision, according to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri, is intended to address the Rs 43,000 crore losses incurred by oil marketing companies. The increase in LPG cylinder prices is part of the government’s efforts to balance the financial burden faced by these companies.
